Donna wanted pictures at the firestation where her husband Bill works. He spends so much time at the station so Donna wanted to incorporate it into their portrait session. There were limitations since he was on duty but we managed to capture some great shots behind the station that borders a golf course. Such a great family and I was so excited that they wanted their family dog in the portrait.

My dear cousin wanted a family photo for her holiday card. With two babies, it's tough to pack up and head out to a location. To make it easy on her and the family, we utilized their backyard for their photo session. Enzo is two and loves to run. He wanted to be everwhere but in the picture. Sweet Gianna was not too happy getting her picture taken so thank you, Jennifer, for providing champagne during the process. It felt like a skit from Saturday Night Live but we managed to get everyone situated in one place at the same time. In the end we filled our champagne glasses to toast our family portrait accomplishment.

A little drizzle brought Kim and Broc's ceremony indoors. We were able to escape the rain for their first peek as bride and groom. I'm so glad there was a moment to capture portraits on the golf course. The bridge and the pond is so picturesque, it makes for an ideal setting for romantic portraits. Kim was such a laid back bride, nothing was going to spoil her day, not even a little drizzle. As the night progressed, we stepped outdoors once again to take advantage of the beautifully lit tree in front of the lobby's entrance. The lights offered the right amount of ambiance to complete the evening family photos and more. I loved their playfulness with each other during their cake cutting. They are first and foremost best friends which is key to a successful marriage. Once again, Marina Linares Photography did an excellent job second shooting. This was such a sweet sister portrait session. The park is perfect for portraits and it's a calming environment. The pond was full so we had to walk through some mushy ground to get to the perfect spot but Madison and Jessica were troopers. It was an adventure for them who were not too excited about gettting their photo taken. Overall, their Mom who's my friend was happy and now has the fourth photo framed on her wall.

Erin & Ryan's wedding will be very dear to my heart. They are getting married at the same venue where I got married. Erin was referred to me by my client who's wedding I recently photographed in October. Erin was a bridesmaid and a great one at that. When I met with Erin & Ryan and found out they were getting married where I did, I think I pleaded with them to allow me to photograph their wedding. Since I was a kid, I've always loved dogs. We had German Shepards, a mutt and now I'm a mother to two Pugs. I do have a category for Dogs on this blog and hopefully, more work will be listed for 2012. Meet Max who frolicked along dog beach as if it were any other play day with his owner, Becky. I love the combination of Max's action and regal poses. There's one of Becky commanding him to sit with her finger, his intent stare is adorable. Becky didn't want to be in the pictures but I convinced her to take one which is one of my favorite shots of a beautiful woman and her best friend. This was such a fun shoot, I can't wait for the next pet assignment.

I'm still attempting to showcase work from 2011. Antoinette and James celebrated a mid-afternoon wedding. With four hours of coverage, the focus was on Antoinette's hour with her Mother and wedding party. With 10 in her wedding party, they all gathered together to pamper and prepare the bride for her grand entrance. And, what an entrance it is at Old Ranch. The 16 step staircase is quite a feat in heels and a gown but Antoinette pulled it off with style and grace. Here are highlights from their beautiful day. A big thank you to Maribel Farina who came to my rescue the day before the wedding to assist me through the ceremony. Thank you for not only coming through at the last minute but you really captured some creative images of their ceremony.

I was so excited when I booked two weddings aboard the Queen Mary for 2011. Marvin & Martyna's ceremony was at Our Lady of Refuge but everything else was aboard the ship. They really set the stage to wine and dine their guests. Their cocktail time was beyond an hour but the live band and scrumptous hors dourves kept the guest plenty entertained. Their wedding party were a hoot and up for anything. The limo provided them with libations which is great when you're on location for portraits. It's the wedding party that gets antsy for the cocktail hour. Their first dance was a choreographed mix of Thriller and West Side Story. With a live band and DJ, there was no downtime. It was definitely a night to remember aboard the Queen. A big thank you to Marina Linares for assisting me. We have been working together on weddings for over five years. That peace of mind of knowing she's there to capture what I may overlook is immeasurable.

Rachele and Rhey ordered save the date magnets for their upcoming wedding. They used a photo from their engagement session back in September. They were both so camera shy, but eventually, they began to loosen up and enjoy the beautiful day. We were in Shoreline village as the sun was setting so we sprinted back to the aquarium park to catch the remnants of the sunset. What made the sunset that much more spectacular was the full moon.

Cheryl & Ernesto are getting married in April. Their engagement session was back in September. The sunlight cast a beautiful warm glow on everything. I photographed at this location before although I was not aware that there was a trail from the bluff to the beach. Ernesto proposed to Cheryl at this beach and wanted to capture memories of the spot. We reached the beach just in time for a gorgeous sunset. It was such a romantic time of day to revisit the location they were engaged and now they have lasting memories of it. I look forward to photographing your wedding in the new year.

I don't second shoot as often as I'd like to, yet I dig being a second shooter. Thanks to Miranda Mirsec who asked for me to assist her on a beautiful wedding next to the beach. I was able to experiment a bit more than I could or would as the main photographer. The pressure is lifted, making the experience that much more pleasurable. We shot this wedding in September and I'm just getting around to sharing some of my favorites. That was fun, I hope we get the opportunity to work together on future assignments.

Rancho Palos Verdes bluff offers such amazing views, the landscape is picture perfect. Add a young, sweet couple in love and it's a haven for romantic engagement photos. Kristen works at Terranea so we didn't have to worry explaining why we didn't have a photographers permit. It was so sweet to see how attentive Ryan was to Kristen. For the most part, men seem to be along for the ride to please their loved one's desire for engagement photos. Chalk this session up to a wonderful day spent along our beautiful coastline and watching the sunset cast it's beautiful glow on everything.

Trying different locations for portrait sessions is always exciting. Couples often times have a favorite spot in mind such as where they got engaged but I like to suggest locations when I can. I mentioned Union Station to Stephanie & Jose and they were on the same track. Stephanie is very familiar with Union Station since she takes the train to work. The stations interior decor and lighting is stunning. Add a beautiful couple to the mix and the word sexy comes to mind. It's easy to get lost and pass time. As we began our journey at the bar for a relaxing potion, we eventually strolled and ended up outdoors at the north end. Our intent was to catch the sunset at Olvera street but time got away. Olvera street is lit so beautifully at night so we looked for romantic lit areas to compliment their more casual attire and time of day. This was such a fun session, thank you guys for being such great sports. I realy enjoyed haning out with you and can't wait to photograph your wedding in June.

Many photographs have been taken of my beloved puggies and shared on this blog. Here's one in particular that I absolutely adore. I pulled a Martha Stewart one evening and collected leaves from our front yard. With my handy glue gun, I made this fall pug band that Bella is sporting in this picture. No, Bella didn't enjoy the minutes I enticed her to wear it for the picture perfect moment but she does understand that there will be a treat awaiting her for such great behavior. Thank you Bella for your willingness and patience when Mama gets an itch for pugtivity.

Jessica & Craig's Jewish wedding was very dear to my heart. There's something about saying your vows over the deep blue sea. The Point Fermin bluff has such beautiful grounds for an outdoor ceremony. The famous fig tree added a special touch to the ambiance of their day and it's free. For brides on a budget, this wedding proves that one can have a gorgeous outdoor ceremony without the extravagant costs. The hupa waved from the ocean breeze and Craig broke the glass with his first attempt. I love dogs so when I saw biscuit dressed to the nine to walk down the aisle, I knew it was going to be a special ceremony. Jessica told me she was pregnant when we met so I couldn't wait to see what type of gown she selected. She looked so radiant, it was the perfect style for her. Their reception was at a local restaurant in Long Beach. Their package was four hours of coverage so I managed to peek in and capture all the details. Soraya and Scott are truly soul mates. Their engagement session left me in anticipation for their wedding day. They are easy going so I knew their wedding would exude their relaxed style and personality. Soraya's dress fit like a white glove, it was the perfect gown to compliment her curves. Feathers seemed to be the bridal trend this year and it was Soraya's signature touch. Signal Hill park was where they exchanged their first look. There are two schools of thought over seeing each other before the ceremony. I'm all about the first look not only from a photographer's standpoint - my husband & I did a first look on our wedding day too. It's an intimate time that a couple would not get otherwise on their wedding day. Another big trend this year is a photo booth at the reception, Soraya and Scott were the last one's to swag out and hit the booth. I just had to peek in at them so of course I included that photo as one of my favorites from the day. Your wedding was just as beautiful as you both and I thank you for allowing me to capture it. With a graphic design background, Kellie's do it yourself nature added such a personal touch to their nautical theme aboard the Queen Mary. Once you step aboard the ship, you are whisked away to the 30's era. I took it a step further with the post-processing and added a vintage touch to the photos. The photography coverage was five hours so we focused on the preparation, portraits and ceremony. Beautiful weather & flowing champagne kicked off their day at Spa Syndney for hair and makeup. Preparation is an exclusive time with those dear to your heart so I was very excited that Kellie wanted it documented. What stood out the most was how Kellie's smile radiated in every picture, other than her tears over Noah's vows, she was grinning with excitement. Kudos to Noah who memorized his vows, & not only brought tears to his bride but those who witnessed their service...ok, including me. He also suprised all with his ceremonial kiss as he dipped his bride in sytle and elegance. They are truely a special couple who enjoy the outdoors and are the best of friends. Now, that's a fairy tale ending. Thank you Michele Menier for your creative talent as my second shooter.

Being an interior designer, Andrea didn't overlook a detail of how she envisioned her wedding day. With a distance of over two thousand miles from the venue, she managed to create an ambiance full of character and decor that made for a spectacular day. Their dogs even traveled to make an appearance for the ceremony. It was a day to remember from the trolley to the butterfly release and amazing cocktail hour. Everyone enjoyed the party on a historic 68 acres estate. The experience was incredible & I thank both Onan and Andrea for allowing my husband and I to capture their big day. It was our first time in PA and we extended the trip to travel to Philadelphia before coming back home. I have to say to the newlyweds, thank you again for the wonderful experience and the newfound friendship along the way. Met some great vendors who helped to create the Davis' dream wedding.

Such a precious maternity session. Shannon was a natural when it came time to flaunt her bump. The portrait session was back in June so I'm a bit late with blogging these photos. I guess I'm trying to still hang on to summer with this post. I love the natural glow on her belly from the summer sun. Daylight savings is around the corner but in California, our warm tempatures will still offer beautiful lighting for a fall maternity session. I hope I get some takers.

Venice Beach Engagement Portraits

Even though I just photographed Soraya & Scott's wedding, I just had to blog a few of their engagement photos in Venice Beach. Next time, we are renting bikes because we tredged lots of ground on foot. We made a full loop from Abbott Kinney, the cool venice street sign to the canals, beach and back. The last image was on our walk back to our cars and it turned out to be one of our favorites. Soraya and Scott purchased a 16x20 canvass wrap and had it displayed at their wedding reception. Can't wait to share their wedding photos. I get a bit behind on blogging but always look forward to sharing my favorites.

I was so excited to hear after photographing Aiden's 1 yr. old portrait session that the Vasquez family wanted a group family portrait. It was great seeing the family interact together and they were so comfortable in front of the camera. When I first met with Maria, mother and grandmother, who by the way looks like she's her daughter's age, mentioned she did not like any pictures of herself. She ordered a wall collage with 7 different soft top wall photos with her and her husband's portrait in the center. That's a success story for CW Photography. They're such a beautiful family. I hope we stay in touch and hopefully get the opportunity to photograph more grandchildern. I can't wait to see the wall collage on their home wall.

Polynesia & Persian themed Bar Mitzvah, Long Beach

I hope Joshua knows how great of a mother he has. Cathy envisioned a Hawaiian theme with a touch of Persian flair and she pulled it off with class and style. There was so much activity, entertainment, alon with beautiful people. It was difficult to figure out a location to capture it all. The cocktail hour was more like a prelude to the reception. Sushi chefs decked out their spread in such a spectacular presentation, it was so difficult to photograph it and not partake. Firedancers and Polynesian dancers entertained the guest and later in the evening the colorful and georgeous Persian dancers lit up the room. Joshua's grand entrance as he was carried in by two buff polynesian dancers was a hit. There were so many great moments that it was tough to select what photos to highlight here from the event. Thank you Gipoor family for the opportunity to partake in such a memorable day. A big thanks to Maribel Farina for your spirit, energy and help.

This was an endearing anniversary portrait session. Luis serves in the military and had only a week to spend with his wife,Vanessa, & family until he heads back to Germany for duty. They both graduated from CSULB and request to have their session on the campus. It was the first time that I walked through the campus. I wish we had more time to explore the grounds but we were chasing the sunset toward the south west campus near the Japanese Garden. The wildflowers were in bloom and made a spectacular finale for their session. I recently heard from a cordinator at the Garden that they recently chopped all the beautiful natural growth. I hope it doesn't take long for it to grow back because it's such a romantic place to photograph. Vanessa and Luis have a little boy, Aiden, that I photographed recently and it's possible that their next photo session may have an addition to the family portrait. How sweet is that?

No june gloom going on for this portrait session. Theresa, Danny and their adorable little boy Joshua were dressed so appropriately for this summertime photo shoot. I fell in love with Joshua's hat...I can't believe he sported it without trying to rip it off. He knew he was dressed to the nines, all he needed were his aviator glasses. Theresa immediately mentioned that Danny didn't like taking pictures. He was very stoic through the first twenty minutes. He laughed at something I said and that's when I saw what a beautiful smile he had. I soon learned that a libation would have helped to relax them. For those that know me, I would have gone out of my way to supply a brewskie or vino. So, whoever reads this, don't be shy about your requests, within reason of course.

Sometimes the most intimate weddings are the most extravagant. Sarah Beth and Stephen's ceremony was at the church Sarah Beth attended through her childhood. The pastor had endearing words to say about Sarah Beth after the ceremony-it's intimate moments like this that are so precious. On another note, Mother's can be very helpful in planning a wedding but there are times their involvement may be a bit overbearing. Sarah Beth's Mother exemplified the essence of having your Mom involved to make your wedding flawless. After the ceremony, the newlyweds and wedding party headed to the beach for their portraits. Sarah Beth wasn't concerned about soiling her dress, she lifted her multi-layered gown and twirled around near the water. Many brides are afraid to sit down in their gown so I was in disbelief as she ran towards the wet sand and ocean. The reception was just as beautiful with the silhouette artist in the background who creates amazing work within minutes. A big thank you to my second photographer Michele Menier...I appreciate all your energy and for capturing such beautiful images. A big thanks to all that participated to make it a momentous event.

Wedding Ceremony at the Japanese Garden

I originally met Jason & Katrina at the Garden during their consultation. Their son, Alex, patiently waited knowing he would get to feed the koi after the appointment. They live in Vegas & were trying to accomplish as many wedding details before making the trek back home. Not until a month before their wedding did we begin to discuss photographing their wedding. We had an official consulation two weeks before their big day. It was quite last minute in todays timeline standards yet it all worked out perfectly. Thank you Katrina & Jason for allowing CW to be part of your special day. Also, a big thank you goes out to Michele Menier who second shot for me & captured beautiful images of the day.

Aiden had his first baby portrait session & he was well aware there was a camera pointing at him. He expressed, "cheeeeessseee" a couple of times which made me crack up. You never know how a baby is going to react or respond when a photographer is following him around. His Mom, her friend & mother were there to encourage him to smile but Aiden wasn't going to let us control his emotions. We lost a big red ball that rolled into the lagoon yet found some pine cones that provided entertainment for Aiden. It's not easy being the center of attention & I thank Aiden for all the laughs and moments when I thought I would never see a smile for the camera. I'm glad that we still had his toy trucks in our possesion, a new pine cone toy and these adorable pictures of Aiden trying to figure out what's going on here.

There’s a risk of rain when you plan a wedding in Jan. This was not the case for John & Meredith who were blessed with such beautiful Southern Calif. temperatures for their Spanish styled wedding. From their Mexican folk art invitations to their choice of rich colors for their flower arrangements, the details set a romantic mood for their nuptials at the El Adobe restaurant in San Juan Capistrano. Their first look was at the historic Mission, a perfect setting for their pre-ceremony & romantic portraits. The evening ceremony complimented the beautifully lit alter in addition to the lanterns & candles that illuminated the grounds . I want to especially note Marina Linares , who second shot with me. Portrait Photography Downtown Long Beach

Chern was such an ideal client. She previewed my blog and indicated what portrait sessions were her favorite. Originally from Malaysia, Chern came to California for college. She wanted portraits to remember Long Beach since she's returning back home this month. We were able to capture such a variety of images and it was all within a quarter mile walk within downtown Long Beach. I always suggest to clients to bring a change of clothes to mix it up. Chern began with a sexy, fashionista look and ended up in jeans for a more casual look and feel. We had so much fun walking around and chatting. Part of a photographers role is to make our clients feel relaxed but Chern made me feel so comfortable, it felt like I was photographing a friend.

The more I photograph in downtown Long Beach I continue to find great locations for portraits. John & Meredith were looking for something different with an urban look and feel. As you walk around and peek around a corner or alley way, you find so much character in the building structures. The textured walls were perfect for John & Meredith's engagement session. I loved that they brought props and different outfits to mix it up. When a couple goes beyond just showing up for a portrait session, it lends itself to a unique, fun and special moment in time.

Baby Portraits

Ava had her first portrait session to document her turning one. A big year for both, Aiden, Ava's older brother was celebrating turning 3. Aiden was so interested in all the dogs at the park and Ava was distracted by all the leaves. Overall, it was amusing to see the difference from Aiden's first portrait session. He was really "hamming" it up and came across as a true veteran in front of the camera. Ava enjoyed playing with the leaves but after a few nibbles she decided it was time to leave as tears welled up in her eyes. I was able to get some cute shots of Ava before her tears but I could have photographed her all day. She looked absolutely stunning in her stylish dress. Her lips are so bright red you would think she was wearing lipstick. Aiden didn't want to leave, he was a happy camper, saying hello to everyone and asking "how are you." Far from shy, Aiden knows how to entertain. You definitely get a sense of his personality from the photo montage.

It's taken me longer than usual to blog Vilma & Anthony's wedding. They started at the Maya Hotel for their preparation & headed over to the Japanese Garden for their nuptials and reception. They saw each other before their ceremony for extra photo time. Ceremony time was 6 pm & the sun set quickly immediately following their ceremony. The reception went off without a hitch and everyone enjoyed the evening. A big thanks to Marina Linares for second shooting with me. It has been awhile since we worked together so it was extra special capturing Vilma & Anthony's wedding together.

Michelle's Mom won my raffle for $100 off a portrait session. She gave it to her daughter who's getting married in December. Michelle & Troy wanted photos at the Katie Wheeler library in Irvine. Unfortunately, the library was closed so we had to scramble to find another location. Luckily we decided on Citrus Ranch Park in time for the sunset. The first two photos are at Michelle's Mother's condo complex which appears like it's on a tropical island. Here are some of my favorites from the day.

Andrea and Onan wanted their furry family to partake in their engagement session. Being a pet owner, I know it can either be disruptive or compliment the session. In this case, the cutie pies complimented their photo session. Mowgli and Woody instantly brought smiles, laughter and enjoyment to the scene. That's why we love our four legged friends. As the night progressed, Onan serenaded Andrea with his guitar as the city lights reflected in the background along the bay.

Vilma & Anthony got married at the Japanese Garden Oct. 9 and I'm just getting around to posting their engagement photos. The pier was packed with people attending the free summer concerts. We snuck around to find areas less populated which led to a variety of unique photos. It was a great time & they invited me to hang with them after the session at Buba Gumps. It makes a big difference when I get to spend time with my clients aside from the consulation. I feel like a friend capturing moments in their life. I'll be posting their wedding photos soon.

Mandi was such a pleasure to work with. She was so easy going and enjoyed the time at the beach. I have not done many senior portraits but I really enjoyed it. I hope to photograph more seniors. I designed a graduation announcement with some of my favorite headshots of Mandi. Her school colors are blue and silver but I love the warmth that the colors offer, it's fitting for such a beautiful girl.

Tanya & Alec exchanged their vows in late May. I wish I had posted their photos sooner. Posting them now, I realize what a fabulous day it was. Tanya combined traditional with not so traditional as you can see in her cool selection of wedding shoes. I believe they may be the youngest couple's wedding I've photographed. They may be young in love but they have wise souls. Tanya wrote me a thank you note that she gave me the day of her wedding. I put it in my camera bag and stumbled across it just days ago. I know brides are so overwhelmed with planning their wedding that when they take the time to write a personal note, it touches my heart and validates what I do. Rema and Jeff mixed it up a bit with an unique Arabic touch for their wedding. Rema did not want to walk down the grand stairs but after some coaching & coaxing, she made her regal appearance at the top of the stair case. It was a grand entrance as always at Old Ranch. Her second grand entrance was with her husband as dancers escorted them around the dance floor. As the dancers entertained, I made sure to stay clear of the flying swords. Guests joined in on the dance floor as they surrounded and danced with the bride & groom. There was not a lack of dancing taking place at their reception. The best man gave the most unpredictable speech that left Rema & Jeff in tears. Emotions flowed at this wedding as we captured laughter, tears and some hot dance moves. Thank you Rema & Jeff, I enjoyed the time spent with you through the engagement photos and your wedding day. A special thanks to Mirabel Farina for second shooting with me.

Living in Las Vegas in addition to Rema being in the midst of her residency while planning her wedding did not leave much free time in their calendar. Weeks before their wedding, they called to say they were interested in booking an engagement session. I was so ecstatic since I tout to all clients how important an engagement session is to the overall experience leading up to their wedding day. It's like a first date all over again & you experience firsthand what it's like to be in front of the camera for an hour or more. Most importantly, the relationship that's established with the photographer is essential because other than your Mom, Maid of Honor or Fiancé, it's your photographer who is with you throughout your wedding. It's one less stress factor because now, you know what to expect and are at ease....this leads to natural looking photos & a good time. Rema & Jeff have a great sense of humor & have such respect for one another. I love spending time with a couple who are meant to be together.

It was so hard to pick favorites from Denise & Adam's wedding. It was such a fun day beginning at the Huntington Beach Hyatt where Denise had her hair and makeup done. Denise had several emotional moments, it was so touching to see her maid of honor, bridesmaids & Mother there for moral support. Once the tears of joy were dried and makeup retouched, we walked the hotel grounds which lead to some amazing photos of Denise in her glory. It was also very special for me since it was th first wedding I've photographed since Old Ranch remodeled their wedding venue. It's such a spectacular place for an outdoor ceremony. The newlyweds hand in hand made a grand exit with a sparkler send off. Thank you Denise & Adam, I had a fantastic time hanging with you guys. Jacy & Melanie said their vows as the sun was beginning to set. It's such a beautiful time of day at the garden & it's that much more precious as a wedding ceremony unfolds. It's a funny story of how a former high school classmate, Darryl, stumbled across CW Photography. They reviewed the Japanese Garden's preferred vendor list & went to my website & blog. From the blog, he clicked on the Facebook "follow me" button & realized we were already friends on Facebook. That's when he made the connection that I was CW Photography. Now I have a success story to share of "how Facebook worked for my business". We added each other on FB due to mutual highschool friends. I could not place a face with the name so I really anticipated our first meeting. We all were in agreement that we didn't quite know know each other well in highschool & did not recognize each other when we reunited. Our true connection is that we are Wilson Wildcats so on top of reuniting, I got the opportunity to photograph their intimate morning ceremony followed by a reception brunch. I'm still waiting for Darryl's music compilation that he made & played at the brunch; although in return, I know they are anxiously awaiting their arrival of their wedding photos.

I posted this photo on Facebook and it received an overwhelming response. Ok, a overwhelming response is stretching it a bit but it sounds good. Now, it's posted on my blog for everyone to see. I've always wanted a cool shot of a hummingbird. Sipping on a cocktail & soaking in the sun in our backyard I was determined to capture the fast fluttering beauty. With a bit of patience (that may have been from the drinky pooh), she hovered over the fountain to dive in for a drink. Here's how it looked.

Who say's nothing is for free these days? Collages offered me a free studio sample album. It's so important to have samples of the product I offer but way too time consuming & expensive to produce. The only stipulation for the offer was a deadline to submit my album design....aggghhhh. I opted to use an album design I created for one of my clients and mixed it up a bit. I really love Collage's Brilliance collection of albums. The photo cover wraps around the entire album and the finish has a beautiful glow, no wonder why they call it their brilliance album. Now, in addition to Leather Craftsmen, my brides will have more options to display their favorite photos. The photo begins with the front, spine and back. I can't wait to show it off.

I rarely get the opportunity to second shoot for another photographer so when I was asked by Joe Latter, who's work I admire, I was so ecstatic. Well, he had another gig in LA but it was just as exciting for me nonetheless. I met his talented associate, Marisa and photographed at one of my favorite locations in LB. I love second shooting, it takes the pressure off of having to direct, coordinate, plan, run a marathon, etc. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy photographing weddings, it's just an entirely different experience as a second. Every photographer should second shoot more often, it's an opportunity to slow it down, try something different & see things from another perspective. Just like taking a vacation for some R&R, it's a mental vacation to keep the eye & mind fine tuned & creative for the next shoot.

Pet Photography, Chewsy Dog Pageant

I was asked to photograph Chewsy Dog Boutique's first dog pageant. I figured, I love dogs, I have two pugs of my own....hmmmm, so what the heck? It's a no brainer. I photograph Bella & Abby all the time so I felt I was up for the task. Ok, I thought weddings were fast paced, I did not expect to hyperventilate through it all. 17 models were photographed, some with their owners too. The day was a great success, it was a day at the Oscars for dogs. I met some wonderful people and new furry friends all the while laughing while soaking it all in. Here's a glipse of the show.

Denise was an exception from the typical bride preparing for her engagement session. I admire her for contemplating more than just the location. The more we spoke about the possibilities of areas to photograph her and Adam the more I learned about who they are as a couple. They love the desert...Adam use to be into BMX racing that's emerged to the love of extreme mountain biking. Since driving to the desert was more than we planned, San Juan Capistrano offered a diversity that met both their interests. They love the outdoors and when I mentioned the train tracks in SJC, Denise said that Adam loved trains. They are such a laid back couple. Their playfullness and willingness to be in the moment made it extra special for me to capture their love for each other. Thank you guys for being so cool, down to earth and fun loving...it shows in the pictures.

Terri & Jeremiah had their ceremony at the Japanese Garden and reception at the Betty Rackas Greek Church. Terri doesn't wear much makeup so her sister filled in as her makeup artist. It was so special seeing sisters helping each other transform into a beautiful bride and matron of honor. I loved Terri's color choice for her bouquet. The splash of yellow & spring blue in the decor announced spring is definitely here. The evening ceremony was perfect now that it stays lighter longer. The sun slowly set during their communion and vows. It was such a beautiful wedding, thank you two for allowing me to capture your special day.

Attended a workshop last week (Dynamic Composition) by Greg Bumatay in Santa Ana. I took Greg's wedding class at Cypress community college a couple of years ago & saw on Facebook that former students were attending. I met new photographers, reunited with former students and photographed a lovely couple, Oana & Alin, who recently got engaged. They are using the photos that we took for their engagement photos. What a great idea to receive a variety of photos with various perspectives.

The weather was perfect for a wedding. A Friday wedding at that, I knew the day would bring many endearing moments. I was so excited to second shoot for Marina who more often than not, second shoots for me too. The day began with the groom, best man and a few groomsmen - such a handsome bunch. Michael and Jennifer decided to see each other before their ceremony, it was refreshing to capture the candidness of their encounter on the steps of Orange City Hall. Jennifer said it was the women's restroom in the sitting room that made her decide on the Hacienda for her wedding. Here are some of my favorites from the day.

One thing I learned after shooting two weddings at St. Anthony's in the last few months is that they start on time, with or without the main photographer. My thanks goes out to Marina Linares who second shot the wedding and was able to beautifully capture the procession. I'm reading the E-Myth & relate to being the "technician" so to all photographers/videographers who stumble across this post, arrive at least 20 min. before the bride. Here are some of my favorite's from Rick & Judy's wedding. The forecast indicated rain but it turned out to be a beautiful day. It was nice to have some time between the ceremony and reception which allowed us to get a variety of pictures at different locations. Rick & Judy had a large wedding but their day flowed perfectly.

Marina got this beautiful shot of Judy just within the church.

This photo just cracks me up....I love it! If you look close, you can see the girl in the back with the caught bouquet and the beauty who didn't catch it.

My girlfriend from highschool eloped in Vegas, Bellagio style. She wanted to share the excitement with family & friends and held a spectacular reception at the Westin in Pasadena. It was a thrill to capture a few photos of Stacy & Brian prior to the big event that us high school girlfriends had been chatting about the last four months. Stacy asked for me to photograph the evening but I really wanted to relish in it and enjoy a wedding reception without a bulky camera in my hand. The weather was beautiful for this December wedding. Susana & James had a beautiful Catholic wedding at St. Anthony's and the reception followed at South Recreation Park in Long Beach. Susana looked stunning in her dress & the day offered such great opportunities to get a variety of beautiful images. It was last yr. that Russel and I worked together on a wedding and he did a wonderful job second shooting, thank you for all the help.

Bubbles look great in photos, it was tough getting into the brides crowd of hugs for this shot.

Zeny & Anita live in Florida and celebrated their wedding in Long Beach. We did not meet until a week before their ceremony. We got to know each other through our email chats. Their engagement session was quickly scheduled when they arrived into town & days later, I took part in their special day. When we did finally meet, their love for one another was very apparent. The day was filled with Phillipino tradition and flair. They treated me like a close friend and it was such a joy to experience a wedding that offered a touch of elegance, culture, acceptance and love....all of the elements that make a wedding unique and special.

Another e-session at El Dorado park. I continue to find new areas in the park that offer a majestic setting. The location is perfect for sunsets; the light reflects on the ponds and trees...everything seems to glow including Susana & James. They have been super busy with new jobs, dealing with escrow and planning a wedding. Through it all they managed to enjoy the day and enjoy each other's company. Holding hands and stealing kisses as the sun sets is romantic and therapeutic. It shows in their pictures. We were the last one's there and security had to kick us out.

Zeny & Anita live in Florida but decided to have their wedding in Long Beach. Our conversations took place via email and we did not meet until 5 days before their engagement session. They wanted a "nature" look and feel for their engagement photos. I did not realize how beautiful the park is and it's right down the street from where I live. It was such an honor to be part of such a momentous chapter in their lives. Their wedding took place Nov. 28th and they are flying back to Florida this week. I'm looking forward to sharing some of their wedding photos here soon.
